self portrait tuesday

There is a project out there called Self Portrait Tuesday. I may try to participate occasionally. This month's topic is personal history.

I wanted to go over and hunt through my mom's pictures and come up with something wonderful, but today is the last day of the month and it isn't going to happen. I found this picture in my stuff. It's not a fabulous picture, but I keep thinking about it. See me- sitting on my mom's lap? And to her left is my Aunt Gloria from North Carolina. We called her Aunt Sister, mom just called her Sister. They were very close. She died of a malignant brain tumor when I was in the sixth grade. My mom really misses her. See the creepy way my Uncle Albert is looking at my sister? Ick. Turns out he was Officially Creepy and did a nice stint of jail time to show for it.**

**EDITED TO ADD** OK, folks. I worded this poorly. Nothing creepy happened to my sister. It was some other little girls. I tried to keep it a little vague because I just didn't want to go into detail and explain the whole situation. I just was thinking about how he ruins this picture for me a little because of the disgusting things he did. He was NEVER creepy to either of us.

ANYWAY, I didn't want this to be about that. I just wanted it to be about my mom and her sister and how they look so happy. I think this may have been the time we met them somewhere (Silver Dollar City?) for a few days, and then they came back to our house for a week or so. We had to clean the house for days before we left and I thought that was so nuts. When we got home with them, I clearly remember Aunt Sister saying she was offended because she could see vacuum marks in the rug and she told my mom not to fuss. But I was so glad that she noticed our hard work.

I only remember bits and pieces of that visit, but isn't it odd to remember such random, specific things?

That's how my brain works too.

And I never knew you had such a creepy uncle, or that your aunt passed away. I'm sorry.

My Aunt Mary is currently fighting stage 3 breast cancer, and I can't bring myself to write about it; I take my 15-year old cousin, Sarah, out every Saturday, but I'm not writing about it at all. Sad, huh?
