put a pin in it...

This is BORING.

I bought my pincushion at Walmart when I was in college and took my first Fibers class. The class I loved. The pincushion? Not so much. That's not true; it was college. What college kid thinks about their pincushion?

Now look how cute... These. All of these- oh my, I'm swooning- some of this gal's pin cushions look like beautiful little cakes, and the birds- how could you bring yourself to poke them with a pin? Or even this one. Yum.

I was looking at Hillary's (of Wee Wonderfuls fame) pictures of these and they kind of reminded me some rosettes I have painted in murals.

and

So I made myself this:

Ahhhh.... much better.

I never thought I would look at a pincushion and think, "Lo, Behold." But they are like cloth diapers... You really could get wrapped up in the mundane. The birds are absolutely unpokeable. It would be like voodoo. Hey - there's an idea. You could make VooDoo dolls... and try to make them so cute no one would want to poke them, thereby promoting peace on earth and reversing bad karma.

I know what you mean! I've been seeing all these amazing pushpins lately and I've been wanting to make myself one.

Did you use wool felt or acrylic? Because wool is *so* expensive. Also, did you fill it with polyfil or something else?

I saw that Prairie Point Quilts has walnut husks to put inside of a pushpin, and I think I'd like that texture better.

Oh - and in case you haven't noticed, I think your rose is *so* pretty!

I always use polyester felt. I have so much of it around from Halloween costumes and stuff. If I was going to make a fancy little stuffie or something, I might invest in wool felt. It's more durable, BUT the poly is washable. It's filled with polyfill. It may not last forever but I'll have an excuse to make another!
